Bahai Paranormal Belief
The Bahai paranormal belief is that there is an afterlife but cautions that the contacting of spirits in the afterlife is imaginary and that only through prayer can we help the souls of those who have died. It is accepted that there are rare inspirational occasions when an angel or spirit will visit someone however it is very difficult what is a real spirit visit and what is imagination or in the worst case a result of mental illness. A Bahai scholar Shoghi Effendi wrote to an individual believer in 1939 which stated, “…it is very difficult to distinguish between true visions which are spiritual experiences of the soul and imaginations which have no reality in spiritual truths. True visions, however, can be granted to those who are spiritually pure and receptive, and are not therefore confined to the prophets alone.” As to the understanding of evil spirits or possession by demons in Bahai paranormal belief likens it to absence of goodness but in fact exists as a malignant entity. As explained by another Bahai scholar Abdul Baha explains “evil spirits or Satan as being the lower nature of man. Because of that definition, and because we believe that evil does not possess power in and of itself, demons or evil spirits taking over a person as understood in the Catholic rite of exorcism, we believe does not exist. More often there is a more scientific explanation for these circumstances such as mental psychosis which require a skilled physicians intervention rather than an exclusively spiritual one.” Due to the uncertainty and lack of understanding in matters concerning the paranormal it is warned not to participate in psychic preoccupation as humans cannot know what is true and what is false. Those of the Bahai faith should involve themselves in this world and not be concerned with the next. This Bahai faith is a monotheistic faith which emphasizes the spiritual unity of all the major religions and all mankind. This faith, believes that many divine messengers have each brought the message of God to man, that was suited to man’s needs at that time in history. These messengers have included, Abraham, Krishna, Buddha, Jesus, Muhammad and many more recent. The messenger of the faith was Bahaullah in the nineteenth century. Bahai teachings and doctrine are based on three core principles: • The unity of God. • The unity of religion. • The unity of Mankind. The faith believes that God is a single, personal, inaccessible, omniscient, omnipresent, imperishable and almighty God who is creator of the whole of the universe. The existence of God is thought to be without beginning or end. The concept of beginning and end is a human concept. God is inaccessible, but is conscious of creation, with his will being made known to us through his divine messengers. The faith accepts that only human beings have a rational soul, which provides the species with a unique ability to recognize that there is a God. Through recognition and obedience, service to your fellow man, spiritual practice the soul becomes closer to God. When a person dies, the soul passes into the next world, where it’s spiritual development in the physical world becomes a basis for judgement and advancement in the spiritual world. There is a heaven and hell within the Bahai paranormal belief. Religious Paranormal Belief
