Greek Orthodox Paranormal Belief

Greek Orthodox Paranormal Belief is based on Christian paranormal belief which is as stated in the Christian bible where it is stated that is forbidden that believers attempt contact with malevolent spirits that pretend to be spirits of the dead, as stated in Deuteronomy 18:11 and that the dead should not have contact with the living as stated in Luke 16:19-31.

Greek Orthodox paranormal belief this contact results in contact with spirits that are not of the dead but malevolent spirits which are deceitful and pretending to be such and as such are commanded by Satan and are named as demons, evil spirits and unclean spirits.

Greek Orthodox paranormal belief is these spirits are familiar with the recent dead and is the reason why they have knowledge with intimate name details, places, situations and circumstances. In the bible this is referred to as a familiar spirit, Isaiah 29:4.

It is believed by Christians that the plan of demon spirits to become interested in all that they do especially the wonders they seem to b e able to perform and thus affect people and move them away from their relationship with God.

Often those interested in the paranormal including ghosts and end up experimenting with other activities such as Ouija boards, tarot cards, astrology, fortune telling etc. The search for spirituality often results in delving deeper into the occult which results in an ever increasing downward slope into the occult.

As stated in the bible it is believed that Satan will have then "blinded the minds of unbelievers, so that they cannot see the light of the gospel of the glory of Christ, who is the image of God." (2 Cor. 4:4).

Christians believe in God and in the Devil and believe that God is stronger than the Devil.

Christians believe in the rite of exorcism to rid those possessed by evil spirits of said evil spirits This rite must be performed by an ordained priest who is specially trained for this purpose.

God created everything that is perfect, and anything that Satan created is not perfect. It is quite clear then that sin itself would have been created by Satan, and not God, it is also then quite clear that God can do anything-God is perfection. God is love.

Satan is not.

The Greek Orthodox religion differs from the Greek Catholic religion primarily that the former does not believe in the infallibility of the pope.

Those in the Orthodox church believe the pope is first among equals. In the Orthodox Church, decisions and power are vested not in a single person but in a decision-making body called a synod. The decisions of the synods are infallible.

The leader of the Greek Orthodox Church is Bartholomew, the archbishop of Constantinople and the ecumenical patriarch and although he is the highest bishop he is considered just a man and as such can make mistakes.

The Roman Catholic Church believes Mary, the mother of Jesus, was born without original sin. The Greek Orthodox believes Mary was born just like everybody else. But because of her virtues and because of the holy life she lived, she was selected to be Christ's mother.

There also are differences in the two churches regarding the Holy Spirit and purgatory. In the Greek Orthodox C, priests can marry.

The Orthodox and the Roman Catholic churches use the same gospels in their services. And while they celebrate Christmas at the same time, they use different methods to calculate Easter. In the Orthodox faith, the priest can say only one divine liturgy each day.
