Jain paranormal belief is that there are indeed gods and spirits but little or no attention is heeded them in this life. There is constant reincarnation and one returns to a higher or lower level on earth depending on one’s actions in the previous life.

One can linger in one of eight hells before reincarnation or eventually join other liberated souls in the highest level of heaven. Those souls on earth are thought to have no contact with those souls in hell or heaven. As the soul descends onto the lower depth of hell it becomes colder, but suffering in these hells is not eternal. Once a soul has been punished enough he or she is reborn into another form.

Jainists believe there is no God who created all things and other Gods cannot help as they cannot obtain their own release until reincarnated and begin the life of a monk.

The universe is forever as it was never created and it will never cease, it is eternal but indeed changes. Human beings live in what is known as a middle world, with hell below and liberated souls above in a place known as “Ishatpragbhara”.

Jains do not believe in contact with souls at various levels and there are just two types of reality. First there is spirit (jiva) which senses and feels and there is matter (aiiva) which is not alive. It is believed that there is life and consciousness in all things and everything is capable of suffering. This includes inanimate objects, single cell life forms, insects, animals and humans thus they abelieve in non-violence.

The Jain religion is a faith which regards every living being as potentially divine and does not believe in a God like figurehead.

Jainists believe that living a life of non-violence progresses the soul to the ultimate goal. This is a different concept of God than the Christian and Islamist but contains some of Hinduism and Buddhism.

Jainism is practiced in India and east Africa.

Jainism espouses spiritual development through reliance on and cultivation of your own personal growth and self control.

There are five basic ethical principles prescribed and the degree to which they are adhered is different for renunciator and householder.

  • Non-violence (Ahimsa) to cause no harm to living beings.
  • Truth (Satya) to always speak the truth in a harmless manner.
  • Non-stealing (Asteya) to not take anything that is not willingly given.
  • Celibacy (Brahmacarya) to not indulge in sensual pleasures.
  • Non-possession (Aparigraha) to detach from people, places and material things.
  • Ahimsa includes not killing, harming or insulting other living beings directly or indirectly through others.
