Shinto Paranormal Belief

Shinto paranormal belief states that all things contain kami which is defined as a god or spirit, good or bad, angel or demon are supernatural forces that are above and below man and do not on the whole interact with man. However there are natural places such as mountains, trees, certain rocks, rivers, waterfalls and other natural edifices which house shrine grounds.

However, popular Shintoism places an emphasis on shamanism, especially divination, spirit possession and faith healing.

There will be a shrine built, which house the kami, with a separation from the ordinary world. This is considered a sacred place where the kami dwell and where it is treated with respect and deference. A believer can speak to the kami housed there but there is no interaction with the spirit.

The shrine may be a communal dedicated shrine but there are many smaller family home shrines.

Part of a Shinto belief in the paranormal that the dead go to a place known as yomi which is a groomy underground realm with a river separating the living from the dead. Yomi is considered close to the Greek Hades or Christian Hell.

The Shinto religion is an animistic folk religion which originated in Japan. It is not certain at what time it originated.

Shinto is understood to mean “ the way of the gods”. Shinto and Asian Buddhism are in fact linked in Japan.
